The Ayr bumper today certainly looked really competitive with many well touted expensive horses from top stables taking part.
I was therefore not that surprised when we went off at such a big price and despite travelling wide, running green and not really knowing his job Sunny Destination ran on really well right up to the finish line……… so much so he could hardly be pulled up passing the winning post by Jonathon. Eventually beaten a diminishing length and a quarter by a very nicely flat bred ex Juddmonte horse owned by John Wade. The first two finished well ahead of the field which gives great encouragement for Sunny Destinations future racing career, especially as this bumper was run in the fastest soft ground Ayr bumper time in recent years at 3 min 54 secs.
Bred from the family of the likes of Gaye Brief R157, Black Humour R161, Simon R159 and Slieveardagh R147 and sired by the up and coming stallion Dubai Destination, who knows how far the 4yo Sunny Destination can go in his racing career, it certainly was a start filled with promise.
Many thanks to the Bewleys and staff for producing the horse to run like that first time up and we all thought he would need a few runs before showing what he is capable of.
