Our old friend the 12yo Chicago Outfit did not get things all his own way yesterday in the hunter chase race at Hexham. First a race outsider went off far too quick up front and then a loose horse also took him on for the lead. Chicago really needs to dictate from the front in his races and together with a couple of uncharacteristic jumping errors that was enough to knock things off course in the race and he finished a well beaten 4th. He also looked like he would tighten up a little to me before the race and will come on for the run under his new permit trainer Lenny Kerr. A lower handicap mark and a 0 – 110 handicap chase around Hexham next time should see him go close in the coming weeks.
My 2nd of two tips given out to members yesterday was the George Bewley trained Classical Milano who won at a massive 22/1. Advised at 16/1 and 7/1 wo the fav in the morning most of us took both bets on to hit the bookies with another huge win. It was a good step up in performance for this very well bred 6yo gelding who is from the top jumps family of Carlingford Lough, Thisthatandtother and The Tother One. The horse fetched 120000 euro as a 3yo and after three disappointing runs in English ptp races he was sent to Doncaster sales where Jonathan Bewley took a punt and bought him for peanuts. After physically and mentally putting the horse back together he now looks a proper race horse and bred the way he is he can only improve especially when sent over fences next year. It is great when things work out so well and even though I had the chance to buy into the horse after the sales I must say I am chuffed for Jonathan and how things are working out with the horse……oh and I should mention the jockey won in another driving finish to the line yesterday after jumping well throughout.
